Hi I'm Maurie

I’m very proud to be recognised for the work I do in the HD community.

What is your involvement with HV?
I first became involved in the Huntington’s community after discovering my (late) wife had the gene. My extended family and I held a number of successful car rallies throughout the years, and in the last couple of years I have been hosting fundraising events at my current accommodation, where we often have themes and everyone has to dress up. I enjoy organising fundraising as I find it is a great opportunity to raise awareness of HD.

Why is raising awareness of HD important to you?
Raising awareness is important to me because I realised there was little knowledge about HD out in the community. It has also been a family effort and we’ve all worked together.

What’s your experience with HD?
I have been a carer for many years. I have not only cared for my late wife, but now also my children who have inherited HD. Sadly I lost one of my children at the age of 49yrs.
